  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 cup golden raisins
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Prepare Ingredients

  • Peel, core, and chop apples. Chop onion and measure all spices and raisins.

Heat Saucepan

  • Place medium saucepan over medium heat. Add apples, onion, raisins, vinegar and brown sugar.

Add Spices

  • Add grated ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt and black pepper. Stir until combined.

Simmer Chutney

  • Bring mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Check Consistency

Cool Chutney

Serve or Store

  • Serve warm, at room temperature or chilled. Store in the fridge in an airtight container.

Pairing Suggestions

  • Pair chutney with roasted chicken, pork, cheese boards or sandwiches for added flavor.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for a balanced tart-sweet flavor
  • Add a splash of brandy or rum for depth
  • Adjust sugar based on apple sweetness
  • Include dried cranberries or apricots for extra fruity flavor
  • Make smaller batches for quick use
  • Serve with soft cheeses like Brie or goat cheese
  • Can be made ahead and improves flavor after 1 day
