Ingredients
  

For the scones:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold butter cubed
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the maple glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 –2 tablespoons milk

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven

  • Set oven to 200°C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper for easy baking.

Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt evenly.

Cut in the butter

  • Add cold butter and cut into flour using a fork until mixture looks like crumbs.

Mix wet ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk cream, egg, maple syrup and vanilla until smooth.

Combine mixtures

  • Add wet ingredients into dry mixture. Mix gently until dough forms. Do not overmix.

Shape the dough

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface. Shape into a round disk and cut into 8 triangles.

Bake the scones

  • Place on baking tray and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.

Prepare glaze

  • Mix powdered sugar, maple syrup and milk until smooth and pourable.

Glaze and serve

  • Drizzle glaze over warm scones. Let it set slightly, then serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter for best texture
  • Add chopped nuts for crunch
  • Add cinnamon for warm flavor
  • Use buttermilk instead of cream
  • Do not overwork the dough
  • Chill dough before baking for better shape
