Ingredients
  

For the crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cold butter cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 –8 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:

  • 6 –7 apples Granny Smith + Fuji mix
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter

For topping:

  • 1 egg beaten for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling

Instructions
 

Make crust

  • Mix flour, salt and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water and form dough.

Chill dough

  • Divide and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare apples

  • Peel, slice, and mix apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.

Roll dough

  • Roll out one dough portion and place in pie dish.

Fill pie

  • Add apple filling and dot with butter.

Cover pie

  • Place top crust over filling and seal edges.

Add egg wash

  • Brush top with egg and sprinkle sugar.

Cut vents

  • Make small slits for steam to escape.

Bake

  • Bake at 190°C for 50–55 minutes until golden brown.

Cool

  • Let rest before slicing.

  • Use mixed apples for best flavor
  • Chill dough for flaky crust
  • Add caramel drizzle for richness
  • Use brown sugar for deeper taste
  • Add raisins or walnuts for texture
